Raise your hand if you’ve thought (or said) “I’m just too busy” in the last week. OK, I can’t see you, but I’m betting there are a lot of virtual hands shooting up right now. I’ve been struggling with this A LOT lately, and what I’ve come to realize in the past few months of allowing myself to become one of those “I’m just too busy” people is that it was more about my priorities than an actual lack of time. I say that my family is important to me, but I heard myself say to my kids over and over that I was just too busy. I’m struggling with my health and an autoimmune disease, but not making time for better menu-planning and fitness. I’m embarrassed to say that the list goes on…
Then I watched this TED Talk video by Laura Vanderkam, an author and time management expert I’ve interviewed in the past. What she shares is life-changing, and blew away all that “I’m too busy” crap I had circling in my head. Game on, priorities back on track, let’s do this! (I hope you check her video out, it’s really worth the 12 minutes).
In that way the universe seems to know what you need, the next thing that popped into my Inbox was an email from one of my mentors, Melissa Cassera, titled “Are You Really That Busy?” She talks about our “busyness” as entrepreneurs and offers a simple trick for figuring out how busy you really are – and how to make easy changes to cut down on the stress and overwhelm.
In my search from sweet relief from feeling so overwhelmed, what I gained from Laura and Melissa gave me a lot of clarity – and I’m finding more time in my life for what’s important while still (gasp!) getting everything else done.
Quite simply, I had to share this, as I wish the same for you!
